BUYING A BUSINESS · CAPE COD AND MASSACHUSETTS

Buying a business on Cape Cod means buying the operation, not just the listing.

If you are buying a business on Cape Cod or anywhere else, I help you evaluate whether it fits you: the economics, the operating role, the risk, and the life the business has to support.

Before you ask whether the price is right, ask whether the business is right.

What to look at when buying a business on Cape Cod

Every acquisition deserves careful diligence. Some questions carry extra weight in a seasonal, tourism-influenced economy:

How much of the revenue arrives in a few months, and how does the business cover expenses the rest of the year? Can it staff in season? How dependent is it on the current owner’s relationships and reputation? What happens to the lease, and is the location part of the value?

None of those questions make a business a bad purchase. They determine whether it is the right purchase for you, at the right price and structure.

The objective is not to buy a business. It is to buy the right one, or none at all.

I am based on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and I work with buyers across the country, mostly by video, including buyers looking at businesses here on the Cape. This work is part of my Corporate Refugee practice.
