OPERATIONS AND BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT · PROCUREMENT

Procurement and vendor management for businesses that buy more than they track.

When supplier costs creep, contracts renew without review, service levels slip, or one vendor quietly becomes a single point of failure, purchasing has become an operating problem. That is usually the point where I can help.

A vendor problem may be rooted in specifications, contracting, demand planning, or internal accountability.

Procurement problems rarely stay in purchasing

A weak vendor process can become a financial problem. A supply problem can become a service problem. A contract nobody reviewed can lock the business into terms that no longer fit.

The work starts by separating symptoms from causes: what the business buys, from whom, under what terms, how decisions are made, and where cost, value, and risk are actually coming from.

Where I focus as a procurement consultant

Sourcing strategy

Competitive sourcing, supplier selection, and when to consolidate or diversify.

Contracts and terms

Review of key agreements, renewals, pricing structures, and service expectations.

Purchasing controls

Who can buy what, approvals, and the process behind the purchase order.

Vendor performance

Service levels, accountability, and how problems are escalated and resolved.

Supply chain and inventory

Lead times, availability, inventory policy, logistics, and working capital.

Supplier risk

Concentration, resilience, and what happens when a critical supplier fails.

Experience behind the work

I spent 15 years in operations, procurement, and supply chain roles in healthcare and federally funded research and graduate education, including strategic sourcing, contracting, and vendor management. I hold a business degree in supply chain operations and an MBA. The objective is practical: lower total cost where it makes sense, better value and service, and less risk, in a form the organization can sustain.

I am based on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and I work with organizations across the country, mostly virtually. Procurement work often sits inside a broader operations engagement.

THE WORK

Where procurement fits

Procurement work is part of Operations and Business Improvement and Strategic Advisory, and can be delivered through fractional or interim leadership when the business needs hands-on ownership for a period.
